    As of The dev build 0.6.0 NPC functionality has arrived! Villagers will spawn randomly in an NPC Village and have a chance of spawning with any of the 6 normal vanilla textures. If they happen to spawn as anything other than the default "citizen" texture then they will be able to be traded with. As of now the type of texture does not affect what items are sold, textures such as blacksmith or doctor. When NPC's are spawned they have a first and last name, as well as a level. The level that they are directly affects how good the items are that they sell. But when you sell an item it is forever stuck in their inventory. It is unconfirmed if this will be changed in the following updates. Although for the most part villagers still function as a normal minecraft villager in the fact that if you build more houses for them they will populate it as well as run from zombies and darkness.
